We spent both nights in Portrush, which is said to be Northern Ireland's premier seaside resort. It had a quiet feeling about it similar to what we experience whenever we go to the Jersey Shore at this time of year. Portrush is built on a narrow peninsula along the North Coast. This was the west facing view from our room at the B&B. It overlooks Portrush Harbour (shown), and a short distance to the left are Barry's Amusement Park (open weekends now, daily in July and August) and the West Strand.
This is the east side of Portrush. Summertime crowds were absent from the East Strand, but waves were still present!
On our Tuesday walk from Dunluce Castle back to Portrush, we took a short detour to look for some of the caves in the White Rocks.
We found them, but even better, we found a stream that was just calling out to be diverted....
Dave and Chris spent a long time playing in the sand.
I was content to sit on a large rock and watch them. With the sounds of the waterfall behind me (the source of their stream), the water gurgling through the small rocks around my feet, and the crashing waves of the Atlantic in front of me, it was a very soothing place to be.
