Woking Park

Because last Sunday was 52 degrees F (11 C) and sunny, many people took advantage of such a beautiful January day. Woking Park is located south of the train station and north of Woking College, making it very close to us. That day the pond contained its usual 2 swans (close to the railing at the far end), while the ducks (which are often found in the same part of the water) were behind me instead. To my far right is a large grassy pitch surrounded by a path. The muddy field was empty, but the path was full of people on foot or wheels. In the distance on the right is an indoor swimming complex with 3 pools, straight on is a playground, and on the left (pretty much hidden by trees) is a gym. To my far left is the...

...skate park. It was full of teens on their bicycles.

Here is a better view of the playground and the gym behind it. More properly known as the Leisure Centre, we were in it for the Woking Beer Festival in November, and just this weekend we watched the Woking Blackhawks play basketball. (We briefly considered gym memberships until we discovered their cost.) We have yet to visit the Pool in the Park, but at least once we'll have to check out Leisure Lagoon with its wave machine and flumes.

It didn't surprise me that the park was filled with flowers in the summer and the fall. It didn't surprise me that the gardens were empty in December. But now the flowers are back, and that surprised me! I guess it's one advantage of having winter temperatures that rarely drop below freezing....
