It's not Super Tuesday here today, but it is still Shrove Tuesday (aka Pancake Day), and that means...Pancake Race at midday in the town square! First came the mascots. The Woking Cardinals play football at Kingfield Stadium, and they were represented - as always - by KC the Kingfield Cat in his red and white team jersey.
After that, 25 different organizations raised funds and entered teams of 4 in the relay race. Down the lanes they went, flipping their pancakes 3 times in their frying pans. Many pancakes (but only 1 person) landed on the ground, and had to be retrieved.
After reaching the bricks at the end of the course, they turned around and repeated the process on the way back.
There were winners in a number of different categories - including the race, of course! Groups were encouraged to wear fancy dress, and best costume went to the Smurfettes. We also saw pirates, chefs, ghosts, and alcoholic beverages. As usual, the Mayor of Woking was present and wearing his gold chain, which makes him very easy to pick out of a crowd!
The pigeons were glad that so many pancakes fell and left crumbs behind....
All proceeds for the day went to Woking ShopMobility, a local charity which provides mobility equipment for disabled and elderly people to use in the town centre.
